‘Traces of summer’ from the series ‘Summer is here to stay (but I’m leaving)’

The photo and series date from the hot summer of 2023. It is about finding a place in the home, the world and the life of a loved one. How you appropriate the space of another, become familiar with it. Also by looking and feeling very consciously, and photographing slowly.

It is a game of seeking closeness and keeping distance. The curtain reveals and conceals. We do not give away everything.

Els Vandenberghe is a photographer based in Ghent, Belgium.

She draws inspiration for her artistic work from everyday reality. It results in -often intriguing- cinematic and poetic images. Curiosity, imagination and wonder drive her.
