This image is a one off edition print from a still of a video within the archivist series.

In The archivist, the stories of Change, the time-traveller, are told over four series of fifteen videos. Each series tells the story of Change’s travels to one of the four utopia, as defined by Sofie Verraest. The videos are made on the basis of archival photos that are in the public domain. The stories are written in collaboration with GTP-3, an AI that was trained on a dataset of 67 billion books, wikipedia and texts published on the internet. The Archivist is about what stories we tell and which images we keep and how this affects our perception of reality.

Alex Verhaest is a multimedia storyteller based between Brussels and Dublin.

She studied at Luca School of arts and graduated valedictorian from Fresnoy Studio National. Verhaest’s work is focused on story and influenced by Cinema expanded and a youth of video games. With each new film, Verhaest dives into what it means to make films in a multi-screen post-Nintendo society.
