This image is part of a documentary called 'Udachny'. The project is about a small diamond mine city that is located in Siberia, Russia. Udachny is a monotown: a city whose existence rests entirely on a gigantic diamond crater. Today the mining town has about 12,000 inhabitants. Photographer Hanne Van Assche spent several months in the mining town of Udachny, on the edge of a gigantic diamond mine.        

Hanne Van Assche is a documentary photographer based in Ghent, Belgium.         

She graduated in 2020 from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. Her work focuses mainly on social topics, with a documentary approach.
