The image ‘Pomegranates, 2023’ was made during a trip to Morocco in October 2023. The war in Gaza had been going on for a while already. For the photographer, the pulverised pomegranates are reminiscent of the bleeding bodies on the streets of Gaza and the way Israel and other parts of the world treat the Palestinian people: like rotten fruit that needs to be removed as soon as possible.

Josefien Tondeleir is a portrait and documentary photographer based in Ghent, Belgium.

She was born in 1987 and studied Sociology at Ghent University. Being a mainly self-taught photographer, she focuses on portraiture and personal series.
