This image (from the series Mare Britannicum) was made on the North Sea between France and the UK. In 2022, 45,755 migrants made the crossing of the Channel, the highest number since figures began to be collected in 2018. With this work I want to raise questions about safety and home, borders and routes, migration and humanity.

Lavinia Wouters is a visual artist/photographer based in Mechelen, Belgium.

Addressing issues of objective and subjective documentary, the landscape - and its scars and traces - is approached thoughtfully.
