Katrijn Van Giel

Katrijn Van Giel is a, mainly press, photographer, based in Antwerp, Belgium. 

She works for newspapers such as De Standaard, De Tijd and NRC Handelsblad.

Van Giel won already different awards for her work. In 2017 she was chosen as the best Belgian photographer by the Sony World photography awards. She won more than once prizes from the Nikon Press award for her portraits and documentary work. 

Mama Plastico is the only company in Mali that collects plastic waste from the streets and recycles it. Women coordinate the cleaning on the streets and get payed in cash by kilo. In the factory local men transform the waste into plastic tubes, used in the building industry. This way less plastic will pollute the river The Niger.
